Tool nine: Incorporating Classroom-Based Devices as Tools for Learning

  1. Why do you think it is important to tie the technology to the objective? This generation is technology based. Technology has evolved into our personal lives. Information is readily  available through phones, laptops, and apps. Incorporating technology in the classroom would only teach students to create, research, and access information from what is readily available.
  2. Why should we hold students accountable for the stations/centers? Creating accountability for stations and centers would allow students to be active in academic conversation, data collection, and development of understanding. Accountability for the research collected, completion of the assignment, and the role they take on for the assignment.
  3. Visit 2 of the applicable links to interactive websites for your content/grade level. Which sites did you like. How could you use them as stations? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations?   Softschool.com, BrainPop.com, and PhET are programs I could apply to a station by creating a lesson that requires research. The programs offer interactive lessons and worksheets that allow a student to be involved in academic conversation, data collection, and development of understanding. Accountability for the research collected, completion of the assignment, and the role they take on for the assignment.
  4. List two to three apps you found for the iPod Touch/iPad that you can use in your classroom. What do you see that station looking like? How can you hold the students accountable for their time in these stations? Apps that I found useful were Safari, Newsstand, and iCloud from iPad. In creating a station I would utilize Newsstand to create a topic, Safari to research the topic, and iCloud to store the findings and share with group members.
  5. What about other ways to use the iPod Touch/iPad? Share another way you can see your students using the device as a station. The camera, notes, and the calendar are other items that could be utilized at a station. These apps. would assist in data collection.
